摘要

The Large-Scale Melt Facility is an important experimental facility in the Core Retention Concept Assessment and the Molten Core Containment Programs at Sandia National Laboratories, (SNLA), Albuquerque, New Mexico. It will allow testing of candidate retention device designs by exposing them to molten nuclear reactor fuel oxides. The large melt furnace, which melts the fuel oxides, consists of a water cooled outer shell and a crucible in a graphite susceptor which is heated inductively. The susceptor is insulated and situated above a water cooled copper pedestal. This report discusses the motivation, the modeling process, and the results of the thermal analysis of various susceptor/crucible designs for the large melt furnace.
