Joint Atomic Information Exchange Group Information Management Project. Briefing Outlining Functions and Specifications of JAIEG Automated Information Management System

The Joint Atomic Information Exchange Group (JAIEG) was formed in 1959. JAIEG's charter was to be the agent to determine the transmissibility of atomic information to foreign governments or regional defense organizations. JAIEG, operating from the joint policy direction of the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Military Application under the Department of Energy and of the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Atomic Energy under the Department of Defense, determines in a uniform and consistent manner the transmissibility of Restricted Data (RD) and Formerly Restricted Data (FRD). JAIEG also maintains records of all transmittal of such data, and maintains record copies of all information reviewed. This information exists only on paper and must be processed manually. JAIEG's work load has grown continuously with the size of its filing system. This has prompted an investigation of the potential benefits of automating JAIEG activities. Science Applications, Inc. (SAI) has studied JAIEG procedures and has identified several areas where JAIEG information processing activities can be automated to achieve greater system efficiency. (ERA citation 09:001752)
