A summary description of the design development of a linear Fresnel lens air-cooled photovoltaic collector and a stand-alone photovoltaic collector array is presented. Module performance is characterized by 12.9% electrical efficiency under operational conditions (800 w/m exp 2 , 20 degrees C ambient temperature) and 14.2% electrical efficiency at 28 degrees C cell reference temperature. The stand-alone photovoltaic collector array design utilizes eight air-cooled photovoltaic modules and produces a peak output of 2680 watts at 20 degrees C ambient temperature and 1000 w/m exp 2 direct normal insolation. This corresponds to an overall array electrical efficiency of 12%. A prototype subscale array was fabricated and performance tested and verified the stand-alone array concept.
