The installation of a flat flame burner furnace at a pressure diecasting foundry as part of a UK Energy Efficiency Demonstration Project is described. The new furnace has a higher thermal efficiency, requires reduced maintenance and has increased operational flexibility compared to conventional furnaces. The energy savings are such as to achieve a payback period of six months. Suggestions for future improvements are also included. (ERA citation 12:039143)
