The objectives of this report are to improve performance and predictability of in situ gelation processes designed to increase volumetric sweep efficiency of fluid displacement processes. This report discusses the kinetics of gelation and the reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) by thiourea; in situ gelation of polyacrylamide/Cr(III) system; in situ gelation of a xanthan/Cr(III) system; and correlations and mathematical modeling of in situ gelation. 4 refs., 3 figs.
