Manufacturing Applied Research and Development Program

Five separate, but potentially related, areas of manufacturing research have beencompleted. These are: (1) Intelligent Automated Numerical Control Programming Systems; (2) Adaptive Control of Manufacturing Processes; (3) Contact Stress and Related Thermal/Mechanical Modeling; (4) Material Cutting Tool Interfaces and Ion Implantation; and (5) Laser Instrumentation for Monitoring, Diagnosis, and Control. A record for laser measurement, using sinusoidal phase modulation, was achieved during task 5.
