Sub-Saharan Africa: The Emergence of a Potential Solution to Peace-Keeping and aProposed Military Model in Support of Conflict Resolution on the Sub-Continent

Instability and conflict are common occurrences in Sub-Saharan Africa, oftenreaching catastrophic proportions. No solution has, as yet, been found. This study reflects on the causes of the problems and the attempts that have been made to solve them. This study then identifies the unique problems experienced by African militaries in conducting peace operations. The paper then argues that a potential solution, to alleviate some of the problems, has emerged in the form of the 'new' South Africa. It then proposes a military model in support of conflict resolution on the sub-continent.
