Evaluating Risk of Reinjury Among 1,274 Elite Army Airborne Soldiers

Risk of reinjury is poorly quantified in the medical literature. Two generalfactors may compete to alter an individual's risk of reinjury. While an injured individual may be unable to participate in normal activities thereby lowering exposure to injurious activities, an injured individual may also be more likely to be injured if insufficient recovery time is possible after the initial injury. The objective of this report was to model the risk factors for a second injury given that a soldier had already been injured once. The study used a retrospective cohort design to follow 1214 airborne soldiers for periods up to 18 months.
