Underwater Cultural Resources Survey of the Houma Navigation Canal, Cat Island Pass Channel Realignment, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana

In August 1997, a cultural resources remote-sensing survey was conducted in the Cat Island Pass Channel of the Houma Navigation Canal, in the nearshore Gulf of Mexico in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. The survey was conducted to locate and assess significant historic shipwrecks or other underwater cultural resources that may exist in the approximately 100 acre project area. The remote-sensing survey located a number of targets, four of which displayed characteristics similar to those of known shipwrecks. Diving to investigate these targets was conducted in November 1997. This examination revealed that none of the targets represented significant cultural remains.
