Allegiance in a Time of Globalization

摘要

This review of social science and policy literature explores the assessment of allegiance to a nationstate during a period of globalization, when many trends appear to change or undermine earlier assumptions about allegiance. It discusses global mobility and immigration trends, the impact of transportation and communications on patterns of mobility such as 'transnational' life or the 'sojourner'. It explores the impact of increasingly common dual or multiple citizenships on the meaning of allegiance based on territorial citizenship. It surveys social psychological studies of group processes and political socialization. It lists insights these studies offer for ways to think about allegiance and further research and discussion on how to adjust personnel security procedures to the challenges posed by globalization.
