NOTE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF U. M. BARSKE'S FRICTION DISC PUMP FOR VERY LOW SUCTION HEADS

The impeller had no vanes and generated head by the friction on rotating discs imparting angular momentum to fluid flowing radially past the discs. One possible form of such an impeller is shown in Fig. 1.nThe only information given on the performance of this type of pump was a statement that the heads and flows were similar to those of the small open impellers with radial vanes developed by the inventor for very high shaft speeds.nThe following notes give a means of estimating the performance of frictional disc pumps, but no experimental verification of these calculations is available.
