摘要

Diagnosis of filariasis in humans and monkeys can be made by the detection of microfilariae in the blood. In Wucherena bancrofti infections, microfilariae are released into the blood with striking regularity, the peak concentrations occurring between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.; Brugia malayi infection is characterised by an irregular periodicity: however, in many Western Pacific islands, including Samoa and Fiji, W. banaofti is nonperiodic. The reasons for this dissimilarity are not known (Marrison, I 958).
