摘要

This report covers development and tests of the 150,000-Btu/hr, gasoline-engine-driven and electric-motor-driven heaters. The heaters were developed under Contracts DA-44-009 ENG-4146 and DA-44-009 ENG-4841 with Hunter Manufacturing Company, Solon, Ohio. The report concludes that:a. The 150,000-Btu/hr heaters are compatible with winterization kits for the Little John, Hawk, and Pershing Missile Systems and are suitable for quantity procurements. b. Continued development of the basic heater during procurement, in accordance with Military Specification MIL-H-52230, 29 June I962,. has improved it to such an extent that it meets nearly all purchase description requirements. c. Service life and airflow requirements have not yet been satisfied "by the latest production heaters;however, the airflow is considered adequate. d. Service life tests of the production heaters have not been completed.ne. The problems of the generator and unreliability of the flame switch on the prototype heater have not been resolved and are being studied;a product improvement program is required to increase reliability of the heaters.nf. The use of detail design drawings is necessary for quantity procurements to provide a consistent design and interchangeability of repair parts.ng. The elimination of proprietary designs and the approval of second-source suppliers for all major components are necessary to increase competitive bidding and decrease the cost of production heaters.nh. Tests conducted by users and incorporation of their find ings into the design eliminate the need for a formal service test of the 150,000-Btu/hr heaters.
