INSTALLATION OF BUTYL RUBBER ROOFING-BITUMINOUS INVESTIGATIONS, FY64--ENDERS RESERVOIR GATEHOUSE KANSAS RIVER PROJECTS

After removal of the deteriorated asphalt, built-up roofing by the project forces, a 1/16-inch-thick butyl rubber roofing was rapidly and satisfactorily installed by a project crew of four men without difficulty or use of special equipment. The butyl roofing consisted of strips 52 inches wide installed with an overlapped joint on one-half of the roof and two sheets (10 and 11 feet wide and 29 feet long) prefabricated at the factory for the remaining one-half of the roof. An adhesive, applied over the entire surface, was used for the installation. A total of about 9-1/2 hours (elapsed time) was required to install 1, 218 square feet of roofing, including special flashing treatment for one chimney and two drains.
