Using Domain-Specific Languages to Improve the Scale and Integration of Cognitive Models.

Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) research efforts to transition cognitive modeling from the laboratory to operational environments are finding that available architectures and tools are difficult to extend, lack support for interoperability standards, and struggle to scale. This paper describes a component-based cognitive modeling and simulation framework that exploits the Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) formalism to eliminate these impediments. Domain specific languages (DSLs) used in the framework facilitate model scale and interoperability. The framework and an example DSL called research modeling language (RML) will be discussed.
