A reduction of the photometric imperfections occurring in copy exposed through a fiber sheet was accomplished by the use of bulk glass rods whose surface had been ground, and then polished to an optical finish. Evidence of light loss from fibers by light scattering defects located at the core-coating interface is presented. Visual observations and photographs suggest that these defects are present on the bulk rod and tube surfaces, and that they, most likely, retain their basic character through the fiber drawing process.
