Analyzing Job Mix in Multiprogrammed Computer Systems

摘要

The study presents a formal model of multiprogrammed systems based on an empirical analysis of operations at a commercial teleprocessing installation. In particular, the study analyzes the interactive effects on system thruput of job mix, local (operator) scheduling, and monitor design in a multiprogrammed environment. The analysis shows that job mix effects considerably influence system performance and decreasing them will result in increased thruput. (Author)
