Automatic Tube Welding and Machining Equipment System Evaluation

Problems associated with decreased reliability and overall performance of permanent tube joint systems resulted in the need to develop an automatic tube welding system. A basic requirement existed for further design concept evaluation. The evaluation was conducted to determine the integrity of the design concept performance, operating procedures, and operating parameters. Studies were conducted on AISI 347 stainless steel and 6061-T6 aluminum tubing sized from 1/2 to 6 inches in diameter with wall thickness variations from 0.035 to 0.500 inch. (Author)
