The purpose of this thesis is to report the results of an investigation on the compressive strength of uniaxial fiber reinforced and lamina reinforced composites when loaded parallel to the reinforcement. In the section which follows, a comprehensive review of previous research on the subject is presented. An analytical model vhich provides substantial insight into the response of uniaxial composites under compressive load is postulated. Derivation of the governing equations, boundary and initial conditions, casting the governing differential equations into finite difference equations and a computer solution to the equations are discussed. Theoretical predictions are compared with results for boron-epoxy, glass-epoxy and aluminum-wax specimens tested in axial compression. (MM).
