PICOSECOND PULSES DUE TO SELF-MODE-LOCKING IN LASERS

摘要

Picosecond pulses due to self-mode-locking have been observed in the Chromatix 1000 Nd-YAG and Spectra Physics 125 HeNe lasers. In the Chromatix 1000 laser, self-mode-locking appears to be a random event; whereas in the Spectra Physics 125 laser, self-mode-locking appears to be continuous. The results of an experimental study of these two lasers are presented in the context of their operation and a simplified theory of mode locking in lasers. The implications of this study to ocular-tissue laser-damage threshold measurements and safety are discussed.
