Cylinder tests have been designed and conducted to study the effect of substitution of ammonium nitrate (AN) for RDX in a limited range of particle sizes and sources,to arrive at an appropriate design of cylinder tests for non-ideal explosives and to provide a basis for studying the basic mechanisms of these non-ideal explosives.
