Research Techniques for Assessment of Lubricant Degradation,Lubricant Dewetting,and Slip-Ring Wear.

Three experimental apparatuses were designed,constructed,and delivered to the Air Force Materials Laboratory. These apparatuses will be used to develop experimental data which can be used to devise accelerated life tests for bearings and slip rings for mechanically despun antenna drive systems for Air Force communications satellites. Two apparatuses were designed for the purposes of studying lubricant degradation and dewetting in ball bearings operating in vacuum. The third apparatus was designed to evaluate lift tests for slip rings operating in vacuum. The report appendices contain operating instructions for the various apparatuses. (Author)
