Primer on Basic Graphics Programming Using the USMA Graphics Compatibility System Version GCS 2.0.

The USMA Graphics Compatibility System (GCS) is a FORTRAN-based computer graphics system designed for interactive use on a wide variety of computer graphics terminals. Due to its comprehensive and modular design,GCS provides a simplified,easy-to-learn,and easy-to-use approach to computer graphics,while simultaneously providing a powerful tool which the sophisticated programmer may use for demanding and highly interactive graphical applications. GCS privides compatibility at two distinct levels: (a) Cross-compatibility from one computer system to another;and (b) Cross-compatibility between computer graphics terminals. Cross-compatibility from one computer to another has been achieved by writing all GCS software in FORTRAN,which emphasis placed on strict adherence to the specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
