The Effect of Hyberbaric Oxygen and Helium on Virus Replication and Host Pathology.

There is strong experimental evidence that virus infection after exposure to hyperbaric oxygen stress 'favors the virus over the host cell'. Viral mRNA degredation is lessened by diminution of lysosomal RNA-ase leakage. In turn the interferon synthesising capability of the host is markedly reduced by direct action of hyperbaric oxygen or compounds such as adrenochrome which mimic its action under normal pressure.
