Some Comparisons between Oceanographic Measurements and High-Frequency Scattering (100kHz) of Underwater Sound,

High-frequency scattering of underwater sound at a frequency of 100 kHz is discussed in relation to hydrographic macrostructure and microstructure (vertical) in the ocean. Data is presented which shows scattering layers to be located at or near depths of density interfaces and chlorophyll maxima. Patches of scattering are also discussed and are related to the non-homogeneous distribution (patchiness) of organisms. (Author)
