Development of a Speech Amplifier System for Use With the Navy A4Oxygen Breathing Apparatus and a Proposed Firefighting Instructor's Breathing Device.

Navy damage control personnel (especially firefighters) are often required to work in areas of possible or actual oxygen deficiency and areas where the concentration of smoke or other toxic gases is high. In these situations, the investigator or firefighter normally wears an Oxygen Breathing Apparatus (OBA) for respiratory protection. Presently, the Naval Ship Engineering Center is considering the use of two new breathing devices. Neither breathing device was originally equipped with an amplified speech communication system. In order to make possible good face-to-face communication in the high noise environments anticipated, it was deemed desirable that some of these devices be provided with suitable voice amplifiers.
