The Type C Mark 13 Mod 1 catapults installed on CVN-68 Class Vessels are similar to all other steam catapults insofar as the launching engine components are concerned. They are equipped with the rotary retract engine, low loss launch valves, and wet accumulator with a simplified internal charging manifold. The main catapult control is centered in the Integrated Catapult Control Station (ICCS). All operations of the launch are controlled from this station by the launching officer. Other functions of the catapult are controlled from the ICCS by the monitor console operator. Any malfunction preventing launch is signalled by light to the monitor who will suspend the launch until malfunction is corrected. This report details all procedures to be followed in determining functional integrity of Type C Mark 13 Mod 1 catapults and associated equipment such as, nose-gear launch and jet blast deflectors. Responsibilities of the Naval Air Engineering Center and the installing activity are delineated. The deadload launching program embraces all shots required for establishment of maximum and minimum water levels, deadload calibration, and performance verification check shots.
