摘要

Recent developments in magnetic flux leakage technology have made possible the creation of an inspection system that automatically detects and evaluates surface and subsurface defects in projectile bodies with high reliability and lower costs than competing measurement schemes. The device is capable of detecting external and internal cracks as well as metal occlusions regardless of the orientation. Operating automatically, the system can load, scan, unload, and segregate acceptable and defective parts without operator intervention. This device has been installed at the Mississippi Army Ammunition Plant which is inspecting the M483A1 projectile body. This report details the operation of the system and presents the results of the inspections.
