Parasitosis Intestinales Identificadas Mediante Examen de Heces En Tres Grupos de Problacion Del Peru (Intestinal Parasitoses Identified by Fecal Examination in Three Population Groups in Peru)

Three different population groups were selected for an evaluation of rates of intestinal parasitosis by fecal examination. Group I consisted of persons of low socioeconomic status living in substandard sanitary conditions in the Amazon basin; 92% of the persons were found to be infested with probably pathogenic parasites. Group II comprised the residents of a housing community of the Peruvian Navy on the west coast; they were of lower middle class and lived in satisfactory sanitary conditions, and parasitoses were found in 22% of the individuals. Group III consisted of the students of a private grade school of high socioeconomic level; the rate of parasitosis was 11%. Parasitoses were found in 5% of those children who had been living in Peru for less than two years, and in 14% of those residents in Peru for more than two years. Living conditions and time of residence were found to correlate directly with the rates ofr intestinal parasitosis.
