Expert Systems in the Military: Too Early

Provides a survey of the current state of a subset of artificial intelligence, expert systems in respect to whether the military commander should consider using these computer programs to make or help make his or her decisions. Historical background of artificial intelligence and expert systems precedes an in-depth discussion of expert systems development, testing, and user problems. An evaluation is made that the technology is not yet developed sufficiently to make reliable, and accurate military decisions. Recommendations and conclusions are drawn on the research.
