摘要

Free radicals generated in vivo by cellular metabolism appear to play an important role in a number of human diseases. The interaction of external agents, such as ionizing radiations, with cellular water can also form free radicals in living systems. Since DNA is considered a critical cellular target for attack by free radicals, e.g. hydroxy radicals, the free radical chemistry of DNA has been the subject of extensive study. A large number of products from both the sugar moiety and the heterocyclic bases in DNA have been isolated and identified. Keywords: Biochemistry. Reprints. (kt)
