Emergence of the White Supremacist Movement: A Criminal Justice Issue.

The subject of this study is the emergence of the white supremacist movement as a critical criminal justice concern. White supremacists have strengthened their political agenda partly because their recent upswing in criminality is providing the necessary funds. This chapter identifies the boundaries of the problem, narrows the scope of this research study, discusses the methodology and organization of this study, and provides definitions of terms essential for discussing this issue. The purpose of this study is to review and describe the white supremacist movement, including its groups and their supporters, and provide a greater understanding of the scope of the movement for criminal justice practitioners. The purpose will be achieved if the reader obtains a greater understanding of white supremacists and their criminal activities while recognizing the debilitating effects of hate crimes on society. To fully understand the white supremacists, one must begin by identifying the central issues of the radical right movement. Primarily, these issues can be classified within these categories: an ultra-fundamental; religious doctrine, political conservatism, and racial supremacy. (SDW)
