This technical report describes how to use the Stabilized Error Vector Propagation (SEVP) Fortran subroutines, which have been developed at the Naval Research Laboratory, to solve an elliptic partial differential equation using finite difference methods. The SEVP method is an efficient direct method which can be used for separable and non-separable elliptic equations. The derivation of the finite difference equations and the use of Dirichlet, Neumann and periodic boundary conditions are demonstrated. The method and a test example are also described.
