Computer Processing of High Resolution Radar Data at the Naval Ocean Systems Center.

This Naval Ocean Systems Center (NOSC) has implemented several high resolution radar (HRR) data collection systems at Point Loma overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Data collected from these systems is processed to produce the following data products: (1) Radar cross section (RCS) versus target aspect angle; (2) high-resolution range profiles (one-dimensional images); (3) high-resolution two-dimensional inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) images; and (4) color-coded intensity plots of HRR range profiles versus target view angle. These data are used for target recognition and RCS diagnostics to determine sources of backscatter. This paper discusses the signal processing aspects of high-resolution systems. Motion compensate techniques are included in the discussion. A general description is given for the computer equipments, the data products, and their applications.
