摘要

This research examines the relationship between scores on two physicalperformance measures--the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) and a Ruckmarch administered early in the Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS) program. The sample consisted of candidates from the 25 SFAS classes conducted in FY89 (n=2059), FY90 (n=2074), and FY91 (first 8 classes only, n=1863). Only candidates who met all SFAS prerequisites and were present for the first SFAS event were included in the analysis sample. Results indicated that APFT scores had an average correlation of r=.25 with success in the program, and the Ruckmarch had an average correlation of r=.43. Analyses designed to assess the utility of various APFT and Ruckmarch cut-off scores suggested that increasing minimum Ruckmarch scores would be an efficient way to raise success rates without eliminating potentially successful candidates.
