The Advanced Instructional Design Advisor (AIDA) is an R and D project being conducted by the Armstrong Laboratory Human Resources Directorate and is aimed at producing automated instructional design guidance for developers of computer based instructional materials. The process of producing effective computer based instructional materials is complex and time-consuming. Few experts exist to insure that effectiveness of the process. As a consequence, the Air Force is committed to providing its courseware developers with up-to-date guidance appropriate for the creation of computer based instruction. The assistance should be provided in an integrated automated setting. This paper addresses the nature of the automated setting in which the assistance is to be provided.
