The following is a report of my presentation, observations, discussions andlearned information as a consequence of my attending the 4th Japan Society of Material Processing Engineers (SAMPE) and co-chairing a special session of the SAMPE Symposium entitled 'Innovations in Materials Design' and visits to the Optoelectronic Technology Research Laboratory regarding research in the growth of opto-electronic films and Keio University regarding developments in the internet information highway.
