Peace Operations-Peacekeeping Versus Peace Enforcement: Why the Dilemma.

The dissolution of the former Soviet Union has resulted in new political and military challenges for the United States. Instability and regional threats throughout the world have caused the current administration to change the way this country views its national interests and the strategy to protect those interests. Since the cold war rivalry has evaporated, it can no longer form the basis that ties together U.S. strategy and policy. The post- cold war system is full of unknowns and in many ways is more difficult and misunderstood. not only by the American people and the media, but by policy makers as well. There is, however one thing that is no longer an unknown to the American people and to policy makers, and that is the UN and the US will inevitably continue to become more involved in peace operations.
