This review discusses Cordyceps with reference to: Cordyceps preparations (pure compounds, polysaccharides and fractions, lectin, solvent extracts, preparations from whole fungus, preparations from mycelium, commercial preparations); apoptosis; compounds isolated from Cordyceps; the role of insects in the ecology of Cordyceps; profiling chemical constituents; poisonings; and taxonomic considerations.
