The environmental impact of bulk material transport can be reduced by transferring regular loads from road to rail. Regional distribution depots supplied by convenient rail links eliminate the need for long distance road haulage, limiting road transport to short delivery tasks. BLI Cement is now firmly committed to this 'environmentally sound' policy with new rail depots in Wallsall for the Midlands, Cross Green, Leeds for the north of England and London built to supply bulk customers throughout the country. BLI Cement is owned by Anglo American PLC conglomerate. With an annual worldwide production of more than 12 million tonnes, cost and environmentally efficient distribution is a key factor for the success of the parent Group.
