摘要

The controversy over DDT use in Africa continues. Does it pose unacceptable health and environmental risks? Or is it the only affordable solution to the endemic problem of malaria? Although DDT is on the Stockholm Convention's list for elimination, an exemption for malaria control means it is being used in a number of African countries in indoor residual spraying (IRS) campaigns. However, 'leakage' to the agriculture sector, where its use is banned, has been documented. African NGOs and experts recently came together to voice a common committment to phase out DDT from IRS campaigns.
