PAN International issues declaration on sustainable locust control

PAN International has issued a series of recommendations on how to control locusts without endangering local communities and the environment. Locust invasions are a major threat to agriculture in the Sahel region of Africa. Swarms can contain 40 million or more insects each eating their own weight in vegetation every day. The damage to crops and vegetation can be sudden and severe enough to destabilise rural communities and cause famines.
