Changes to subsidies for renewable electricity could incentivise between ￡20bn and ￡25bn of new investment in the UK economy between 2013 and 2017, the government has said, as bandings were established for renewable technologies under the Renewables Obligation. The Banding Review, which was announced in July, could deliver as much as 79 TWh/y of renewable electricity in the UK by 2017, nearly three-quarters of the way towards the 108 TWh of electricity needed to meet the UK's 2020 renewable energy target. The proposals are expected to bring forward 11 TWh more renewable energy in 2016/2017 than current bandings.
