One of the key developments recently has been the signature of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Energy Institute (El) and Airlines for America (the trade association for US domestic carriers), the El and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the El and the Joint Inspection Group (JIG; see Petroleum Review, October 2011, for further details of JIG). The main focus of these MoUs has been to formalise technical links between these organisations and the El's Aviation Committee and its Sub-Committees. For many years the technical work of the El has benefited from feedback from those stakeholder groups, but by joining the El as Technical Liaison Partners, information exchange with them has been significantly enhanced. Another important addition to the membership of the Aviation Committee has been World Fuel Services, which joined as an El Technical Partner in 2011.
