The tanker industry has been fortunate in avoiding the worst of the recent market downturn, with lower oil prices stimulating demand. The continual high crude production is also expected to sustain demand. Furthermore, the tanker fleet size is still growing overall. According to Charles R Weber's latest tanker report, there are still 38 VLCCs (very large crude carriers) to be delivered by the end of 2016, while seven VLCCs are to be scrapped, leading to a net fleet growth of 4.7%.
