Double decommissioning

Two nuclear power stations in the Slovak Republic are currently being decommissioned by Jadrova a vyradovacia spolocnost (JAVYS), the country's nuclear and decommissioning company. The A1 and V1 plants are both located near the village of Jaslovske Bohunice, in south-western Slovakia. The A1 facility entered operation in 1972, and was the very first nuclear plant in the country, which was then known as Czechoslovakia. It had just one Russian-designed KS-150 type reactor (a heavy water moderated, gas cooled reactor (HWGCR) able to refuel during operation) which was fuelled by natural uranium (not enriched with 235U) and cooled by carbon dioxide (CO2).
