At the beginning of August it emerged that Allseas had been selected by Shell to deploy its giant newbuild Pieter Schelte twin-hull vessel to tackle what is bound to be regarded as a technology first for the use of such a vehicle. Allseas is to carry out the removal of three Brent topsides, transport them from the field locations in the northern North Sea and load them in to an as-yet unnamed port or dismantling site. The deal also includes removal of the Brent Alpha platform jacket, and an option for removal of a fourth topsides.
