Jemgum gas storage facility opens

After around five years of construction, Astora has finally commissioned one of the largest cavern storage facilities in Germany, at Jemgum, Lower Saxony. The facility, which will make a key contribution to supply security and highlights the central role Lower Saxony plays as a natural gas hub for north-west Europe, will continue to be expanded. By 2018 there will be some 10 storage caverns in total in the salt dome at Jemgum, able to take up to 1bn cm of natural gas-enough capacity to supply more than half a million households with natural gas for a whole year.
