Brent field facts

The UK Brent field was discovered in 1971 and first production commenced in 1975. It sustained UK offshore oil output for years, lending its name to the benchmark crude produced from the North Sea. In the mid-1990s, Shell embarked on a major ￡1.2bn long-term field development at Brent, allowing reservoir pressure to decline and converting it primarily to a gas producing field. Brent was developed with four platforms-Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta. Oil was exported via the Brent pipeline system to Sullom Voe in the Shetland Islands and gas was exported via the Far North Liquids and Associated Gas System (FLAGS) to St Fergus, north of Aberdeen.
