AlternaFruit reinvents ancient and exotic fruit kinds in establishing a truly sustainable South African exotic fruit industry

From the perspective of our traditional and highly commercialised fruit industry, figs and pomegranates are some of the last fruit that come to mind. Mention them and they conjure up biblical scenes or medieval still life paintings and the closest most of us have been to these fruits is perhaps in a neglected corner of a farm garden. All this is set to change as the production of exotics such as figs and pomegranates is receiving a considerable amount of attention from growers throughout the southern hemisphere and in South Africa, AlternaFruit is currently developing a sustainable exotic fruit industry in answer to the new and growing market demand.
